The title "Denby" and the date of October 10, 1922, come from notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, and they have not been independently verified. The company was a commercial studio that documented American cities, landmarks and everyday scenes in the early twentieth century, and its glass negatives preserve a detailed record of that period. Herbert A. French gave this negative to the Library of Congress in 1947. Viewers should note the streaks and blemishes across the glass, which result from the natural deterioration of the original coatings.
