Four people are named on this 1923 glass negative: Mrs. Denby, Lejeune, Denby and Adm. Rodman. Edwin Denby was Secretary of the Navy that year, and John A. Lejeune was commandant of the Marine Corps, so the sitting probably involved the naval and Marine leadership, though the record does not say what the occasion was. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that photographed public life in the early twentieth century, made the negative, and its glass plates often preserve the faces of officials and their families. The record's title and date come from unverified notes on the negative sleeve, so treat those details as provisional.
