Memorial Bridge, which crosses the Potomac between Arlington and the Lincoln Memorial side of Washington, is best known for the pair of granite pylons at its Virginia end, each topped with a bronze eagle. The bridge was built in the 1930s as part of the effort to link the Lincoln Memorial with Arlington National Cemetery, and its formal approach was designed to give visitors a dignified processional route into the capital. Look closely at the eagles, which are the detail that most distinguishes this view from other shots of the river and the monument.
