What sets this poster apart is its basketball theme, which ties the 1938 Paramount release to the sports-minded campus comedies that studios turned out in the late 1930s. The record names two performers, Betty Grable and Eleanore Whitney, and Grable was then a young Paramount contract player whose career was still gaining momentum. College pictures like this one drew audiences with light romance, music and athletic rivalry, and their posters often leaned on bright color and action to sell that mix. The poster's dating to about 1938 places it at the height of that studio formula.
