Roger Broders' lithograph for Monaco and Monte-Carlo is one of the best-known travel posters of the interwar years, and it sells the Riviera as a place of sun, sea and leisure. Printed in Paris around 1920 by J. Langlois, it presents the harbor and resort as an elegant escape for the wealthy travelers who came to the principality's casinos and hotels. Broders, who worked for the French railway companies, is celebrated for his simplified forms and flat, luminous color, which give the scene a calm, modern look. The poster's title, "Au pays du soleil," or "In the land of sun," captures the appeal that drew visitors south during the period.
