This 1937 poster stands out from others on the board for its plain offer: admission to Brookside Zoo at no charge, at a time when many families had little money for outings. The Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, produced posters like this one to promote public services and cultural institutions. Silkscreen let artists print bold, flat color in editions that could be hung in shops, schools and public buildings. The subject list names panthers, which suggests the big cats were part of what the poster wanted viewers to come see. The design is attributed to an artist identified as Carken.
