The only identifying detail in this record is the title "Wright," which the Library of Congress notes is unverified and was taken from the negative or its caption card. The plate is a 5 by 7 inch or smaller glass negative, a format that news photographers in the early twentieth century used for fast, portable work. It belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by the Bain News Service in New York, which supplied newspapers with pictures of current events, public figures, and everyday scenes. Because the date and subject are not recorded, the best way to read the image is as a surviving example of that press work, where the glass plate itself shows how news pictures were made and circulated.
