The only identifying detail here is the name J.M. Anderson, which the Bain News Service recorded on the negative or its caption card. The library has not verified it, so the sitter's identity remains uncertain. The picture survives as a single glass negative no larger than 5 by 7 inches, a format that press photographers and studio workers relied on in the early twentieth century. George Grantham Bain's agency sold news pictures to newspapers in New York from about 1899 into the early 1930s, so its plates record people and events that made headlines in that era. Treat the name as a starting point for research rather than settled fact.
