The only identifying detail in this record is the name Ernest Glendinning, which the Library of Congress notes comes from unverified caption cards and negative labels, so the sitter's identity and role remain uncertain. The image survives as a glass negative no larger than five by seven inches, a format typical of the Bain News Service, the New York picture agency that George Grantham Bain founded around 1899 to supply news photographs to newspapers. Bain's glass negatives, largely from the early twentieth century, give researchers a broad view of American public life of that period, though this entry has no date to place it more precisely.
