A panoramic print nearly four feet long sets this view apart, showing Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from an elevated vantage point. Its copyright deposit, filed by F. J. Bandholtz in July 1907, dates it to the period. Bird's-eye views like this were a popular format in the early 1900s, when photographers worked from tall buildings or nearby heights to capture a whole town at once. Cedar Rapids, on the Cedar River, was then a busy milling and manufacturing center, so a view of this scale would have recorded its streets, rooftops and industrial reach in one sweep.
