Rather than a single place or event, this poster lays out the emblems that marked the separate branches of the U.S. Army, a subject that would have been familiar to viewers in 1941 as the draft and rearmament expanded. It was produced by the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration, which employed artists during the Depression and made silkscreen posters for public information. Silkscreen let the program print bold, flat color in quantity, and the clean shapes here reflect that method. The design treats military insignia as clear, readable graphics meant to be understood at a glance.
