This silkscreen poster from 1941 urges Michigan residents to take part in a U.S. Employment Service survey of farm and factory labor, a count of who was available to work and where help was needed. Its title, "Mobilizing Michigan," ties the survey to the national effort to prepare for war production before the United States entered the conflict in December 1941. The Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, produced posters like this one to inform the public about federal programs, and silkscreen allowed the designers to print bold, flat areas of color cheaply in quantity. A January 1943 date stamp on the front shows the poster was still in circulation well after the survey.
