Theodore Roosevelt, the former president, is the figure this picture is built around, shown at the wedding of his daughter Ethel, who married Richard Derby in 1913. The Bain News Service, a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers with pictures of current events, made the negative. Its caption cards are the source for the title, which has not been independently verified. Glass negatives like this one were the working medium of news photographers in the early 1910s, so the image also records how press photography covered a family event that drew wide public interest.
