Ethel Roosevelt, the younger daughter of former President Theodore Roosevelt, married Richard Derby in 1913, and this glass negative is titled as a picture of her father at the wedding. The title comes from the Bain News Service's own notes and has not been independently verified, so the exact moment and setting are uncertain. The Bain agency, a New York photo service, supplied newspapers and magazines with pictures of public figures and society events in the early twentieth century. Roosevelt was a familiar subject for photographers of that era, and a family occasion like this one drew attention because of his national prominence.
