The subject here is Eleanor Wilson, the younger daughter of President Woodrow Wilson, shown in her wedding dress. She married William Gibbs McAdoo, then Secretary of the Treasury, in a White House ceremony in May 1914, one of the few weddings held in the executive mansion. The Bain News Service, a Washington-area press agency, made this glass negative, and its caption identifies the sitter as "Mrs. W.G. McAdoo," a title the record marks as unverified. Bain's glass negatives are valued today for documenting Washington society and official life in the years before World War I.
