A June 10, 1922, wedding of a Mrs. Hughes, captured on a glass negative, sets this plate apart from the other event pictures on this board. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., commercial studio active in the early twentieth century, produced large numbers of plates like this one for clients and the press, documenting everyday public life in the capital. Glass negatives were prone to streaks and surface damage as their coatings aged, so the faint blemishes on this plate are part of its physical history. The record notes that the negative came to the Library as a 1947 gift from Herbert A. French.
