The poster asks "Who saves the Fatherland?" and answers with a call to arms aimed at men who had come home from the war to a defeated, unsettled country. It advertised the Freikorps Lützow, a volunteer paramilitary unit named after the Lützow Free Corps that fought Napoleon's forces in 1813. In 1919 the Freikorps were formed to put down leftist uprisings and to fight in border conflicts, and recruiting appeals like this one drew on nationalist language to bring in volunteers.
