This engraving shows the Custom House on lower Wall Street in New York, a building with deep ties to the young republic. It was the former Federal Hall, where George Washington took the presidential oath in 1789, and it was given over to customs use in the years shown in the title, 1799 to 1815. William Rollinson drew the original view and W.M. Aikman engraved it. The Society of Iconophiles issued this plate in 1906 as part of its Series IX, one of an edition of 100 impressions.
