Girls work around an ice wagon in this November 1912 view from New York City, a sight common on busy streets before home refrigeration became widespread. Lewis Hine, who photographed child labor for the National Child Labor Committee, is credited as the maker, a attribution based on the print's provenance. The album that holds it also contains Hine's tenement homework pictures, and an earlier caption describing girls embroidering in a crowded bedroom has been crossed out, so the ice wagon title is the one the record now carries.
