This glass negative, dated June 6, 1923, is titled "Aladdin at White House," though that title comes from unverified notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, so the exact event it records is uncertain. The company was a Washington, D.C., commercial studio that photographed official life and public events in the capital during the 1910s and 1920s, and its negatives give a useful view of the White House grounds in the Harding years. Glass plates like this one were common then, and the streaks and blemishes visible on this example come from the gradual breakdown of the original coating over time.
