The record titles this picture "Aladdin Temple at White House," naming a Shriners chapter and dating the visit to June 6, 1923, when Warren G. Harding was president. The National Photo Company, a Washington studio that photographed the capital and its visitors for decades, made the image on a glass negative. Herbert A. French gave the plate to the Library of Congress in 1947. Look closely and you may see streaks and blemishes, which come from the natural breakdown of the original coatings on glass negatives of this age.
