Standing on Constitution Avenue between 14th and 15th Streets, the Department of Commerce Building was one of the largest federal office structures of its day, and this view captures it around 1932, when it was newly completed. The building was meant to consolidate the department's many bureaus under one roof. The caption card's subject tag for aquariums points to the public exhibit tanks maintained by the Bureau of Fisheries there. The photograph is worth a close look for its Classical Revival massing and the broad avenue that sets it off.
