A destroyer on the stocks of a British naval shipbuilding yard is the focus here, its hull rising in the open air and dwarfing the workmen beside it. The photoprint was reproduced in *The Illustrated London News* in June 1916, just after the Battle of Jutland, when public attention was fixed on the Royal Navy and its expansion. Destroyers were built in large numbers during the First World War, and the picture shows the scale of that effort. The yard and exact date are not confirmed, since the record draws on an unverified caption card.
