This poster promotes three neighboring mountain villages, Villars, Chesières and Arveyes, in the Vaud Alps above Ollon in western Switzerland. Its German title, roughly "The Leading Winter Sports Resorts of West Switzerland," suggests it was aimed at German-speaking visitors whom the resorts were courting in the 1920s and 1930s, when rail links and new hotels were opening the high valleys to skiers. Rather than showing slopes alone, the design adds elves and snowballs among the skiers, a whimsical touch that presents the cold season as a place of play. The printer, Simplon of Lausanne, is named on the sheet, and the date is uncertain, recorded as about 1930.
