This color lithograph advertises Bailey's fine candies from 45 West Street in Boston, with a winter scene of children playing in the snow, several with sleds and sleighs. Advertising cards like this one were printed in large runs in the late nineteenth century, often handed out in shops or tucked into packages, and many were kept in scrapbooks. The cheerful sledding scene, with its bundled children in the dress of the period, shows how merchants tied their products to the pleasures of the season. Bailey's was one of many Boston confectioners using such cards to draw customers.
