An exhibition of children's drawings in Ohio gives this silkscreen poster its subject, and a clown rendered in bold, flat color sets its cheerful tone. The Federal Art Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, ran from 1935 to 1943 and used silkscreen for many of its posters because the process was inexpensive and could produce vivid color in quantity. A date stamp on the back reads February 9, 1939, placing the print among the promotional works the project issued to announce public exhibitions during the Depression.
