This glass negative records a reception for Theodore Roosevelt, whose name in the caption makes him the clear focus of the scene. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied news pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century, made and captioned images like this one, and Roosevelt, who was a frequent subject of press photographers during his presidency from 1901 to 1909, is a natural figure for such coverage. The date and exact occasion are not recorded, and the title comes from caption information the agency supplied that has not been independently verified, so the event itself is best approached as a glimpse of how public ceremonies were documented in that era.
