Unlike the many Currier & Ives prints of Mormon subjects, this lithograph focuses on the church's first presidents, the men who led the Latter Day Saints from its early years. The record credits a John Lind as agent in Utah, which points to the print being distributed in the territory during the late 1870s. By then the church's leadership, its practice of plural marriage, and the federal campaign against polygamy were all matters of national debate, and eastern publishers such as Currier & Ives sold many images aimed at that audience. The print is useful for seeing how the church's founders were presented to the public at the time.
