Here, several men gather around an automobile still under assembly inside a plant, a scene of hand work that was typical of car building around 1906. Before moving assembly lines spread after 1913, most cars were put together by skilled workers who fitted and adjusted each part by hand, so output depended on individual craft rather than a fixed sequence. The print carries a copyright notice in the name of Waldon Fawcett, an automotive writer and photographer who documented the early trade, though its date and other details come from an unverified caption card.
