Newspaper carriers are the particular focus of this poster, which the record lists among its subjects alongside Red Cross recruiting. Printed in Washington, D.C., by the Potomac Lithographing Manufacturing Company, it is dated around 1917, the year the United States entered the First World War. That year the Red Cross ran large membership drives asking ordinary Americans to join and support relief work for soldiers and civilians, and delivery boys who visited every household made natural messengers. The color lithography is typical of the wartime poster boom of 1914 to 1918.
