The title "Seek Dead" is a hunting command that sent a dog out to find game it could not see, usually a bird or animal already shot. This picture dates to about 1902 and is one of the large mammoth-plate prints issued by the Detroit Publishing Company, which sold views of American places and everyday life to a wide market. It was made by the cyanotype process, which gives the image its characteristic blue tone. The record also notes a copy that reached the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949.
