This 1926 map presents Philadelphia and its surrounding towns in a slanted, pictorial view, as if seen from a high vantage point rather than from directly overhead. Edward W. Spofford drew it for C.S. Hammond & Company, a mapmaking firm that published bird's-eye views for a general audience. The date places it near the Sesquicentennial Exposition of 1926, which marked 150 years since the Declaration of Independence and drew attention to the city's historic sites and its street grid, laid out under William Penn's plan of 1682.
