The poster ties the Southwest theater Unit of the Federal theater Project to the Musart theater in Los Angeles in 1936, a specific venue that sets it apart from many WPA theater posters. The Federal theater Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, employed out-of-work actors, directors and stagehands during the Depression and took live drama into communities that rarely saw it. Riggs Lynn designed the silkscreen color poster, a technique the WPA art programs used to produce inexpensive, eye-catching notices. The catalog lists the production under comedies, a reminder that the project offered light entertainment alongside more socially pointed work.
