The Federal theater Project's Negro Unit staged *Noah, a Human Comedy* in New York in 1936, and this silkscreen poster advertised that production with Noah's ark as its central image. The Federal theater Project was one of the arts programs of the Works Progress Administration, created to put actors, designers, and stage workers back to work during the Great Depression. Its Negro Units, including the one sponsored by the Negro theater Project in New York, gave Black theater artists rare opportunities to perform and direct in a period when commercial Broadway rarely offered them. The poster's bold color and simplified animals reflect the silkscreen techniques the WPA poster division used to produce inexpensive, eye-catching publicity.
