A 1938 silkscreen poster announces a Festival of American Dance in Los Angeles, staged under the Federal theater Project and featuring a work titled *An American Exodus*. The Federal theater Project was one of the arts programs of the Works Progress Administration, created to put theater workers, dancers and designers back on payroll during the Depression. Its poster division produced bold, flat-color silkscreen work like this one to advertise productions in cities across the country. Congress ended the project in 1939, so posters from its brief run are now among the clearest surviving records of its regional activity.
