The poster advertises a special performance festival of American dance in Los Angeles in 1937, with the work *An American Exodus* as its featured piece. Its record names dancers Myra Kinch and Manuel Galea among the people connected with the program. The title points to the Dust Bowl migrations of the 1930s, when families from the Plains states moved west, many to California, in search of work and land. The Federal theater Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, sponsored the event, and its posters were made by artists employed through the same New Deal program. The silkscreen color printing was a practical, inexpensive method well suited to mass-producing these posters.
