Walt Whitman's "Salut au Monde!" supplies the source for this dance production, a poem that catalogs people and places from across the globe. Tamiris directed and choreographed the work for the Federal Dance theater, with music by Genevieve Pitot and costumes by Robert Byrne. The silkscreen was produced under the Federal Art Project, the New Deal arts program that employed artists during the Depression, and a stamp on the reverse records a date of June 16, 1937. Its flat, saturated color is typical of the WPA poster style.
