Titled *Das Herrenvolk*, or "the master race," this 1939 drawing by Polish-born illustrator Arthur Szyk turns the Nazi ideology of racial supremacy against itself. The record lists its subject as German prisoners in Poland, a reminder that the war's first months brought Germany's own soldiers into captivity. Szyk worked in ink with transparent watercolor and gouache over graphite, a technique he used to combine fine detail with bold, pointed satire. The drawing later appeared in the exhibition *Arthur Szyk: Artist for Freedom* and is part of the Ben and Beatrice Goldstein Foundation Collection.
