Few posters from the Federal theater Project's Living Newspaper productions survive in color, and this silkscreen announces *Power* by Arthur Arent. The Living Newspaper format, one of the Project's best-known experiments, turned headlines and public debates into staged documentary drama, and *Power* took on the fight over whether electricity should be controlled by private utilities or public agencies. The Federal theater Project was part of the Works Progress Administration, which employed artists, writers, and performers during the Depression. The poster's bold graphic style reflects the WPA's wider program of public art, which carried government-sponsored culture into ordinary neighborhoods.
