Jenny Lind, the Swedish soprano, is the central figure here, shown with the baritone Giovanni Bellitti and the composer and conductor Jules Benedict, both members of her touring company. Her American concerts, arranged by the showman P. T. Barnum, began in New York in September 1850 and drew huge crowds, so a print dated around that month would have captured the excitement of her arrival. The dedication to the American people reflects how eagerly the press and public embraced her. The attribution to the photographer Sarony comes from an unverified shelf card, so treat it with some caution.
