Two Mercedes-Benz automobiles roll past a building hung with wreaths, a festive touch that sets this view apart from the road scenes around it. The picture comes from an album documenting the Kraftfahrzeug-Winterprüfung, or motor vehicle winter test, held in Germany from February 2 to 5, 1938, when vehicles were evaluated for how they performed in cold weather. Daimler-Benz, the company behind the Mercedes-Benz marque, is the subject of the photograph's classification, and this print appears on page 14 of the album. The greenery hints at the ceremony that often surrounded such official events.
