Marching under the nickname "Newark's Own," the 312th Infantry was closely tied to its home city, and this 1919 view shows its men moving down a city street. The regiment belonged to the 78th Division, a wartime unit raised largely from draftees in New Jersey and New York, which fought in France in 1918 during the final Meuse-Argonne campaign. Parades of returning soldiers were common in American cities that year, and the Thanksgiving theme of this board fits the mood of relief and homecoming that followed the war.
