Dated 1750, this print belongs to the early decades of ukiyo-e, the "pictures of the floating world" that flourished in Edo-period Japan. These works were made by carving a design into woodblocks and printing it on paper, so one design could produce many impressions. Around the middle of the eighteenth century, printmakers were moving toward full-color printing, which made these images far more vivid. The "photo print" label in the title is a modern catalog term, since ukiyo-e predates photography by roughly a century.
