A doll and buggy parade, put on by a recreation project in Illinois's second district, is the event this poster advertises, showing children marching with their dolls and carriages. Produced in 1939 under the Federal Art Project of the Work Projects Administration, it was printed by silkscreen, a method the program used to promote free community events during the Depression. The flat, bright colors and simple figures give a sense of how public recreation programs encouraged play and neighborhood gatherings for children in the late 1930s.
