A pet show poster from Illinois makes an unusually lighthearted entry in the WPA's output. This 1936 silkscreen, issued under the District No. 2 recreation project, announces a community event for dog owners and their animals. Recreation programs were a regular part of Works Progress Administration work across the country, and local notices like this one were often printed by silkscreen, which produced bold, flat color in quantity. The date stamped on the back, April 3, 1939, falls three years after the poster was made.
