A pet show, run by the recreation project of District No. 2 in the "Gregg" listing, is the particular subject here, and it makes this one of the more lighthearted posters on the board. Printed in silkscreen color in 1936, it belongs to the WPA poster series, which advertised free public events and services during the Depression. Recreation programs like this gave Illinois communities low-cost ways to gather, and a show featuring dogs and other pets was an easy draw for families and children. A date stamp on the reverse, April 3, 1939, shows the poster was still in circulation several years after it was printed.
