A man stands at the controls of a McCormick-Deering Farmall, the row-crop tractor International Harvester introduced in 1924, here pulling a reaper through a field. The Farmall's high, narrow frame let it cultivate between rows of corn and other crops, a job horses had done for generations. Its design helped make tractors practical for small and mid-sized farms, and by the late 1920s these machines were changing how grain was cut and harvested. The date noted in the record, October 20, suggests a late-season harvest scene.
