Travelers crossing Lake Geneva in the late nineteenth century would have known the Hotel Beau Rivage, and this print preserves its image from that era. The record places it in a travel album that also covered Athens, Egypt, the Rhine, the Tyrol, and Salzburg, with the print on page 30. Albumen prints like this one, made by coating paper with egg white and silver salts, were the standard photographic process from about 1860 to 1890, and albums of such views let armchair travelers tour the same destinations as the wealthy visitors who filled hotels like this one.
