The third in a numbered set of "Jitterbugs" prints, this color silkscreen shows the energetic partner dance that spread with swing music in the late 1930s and 1940s. It comes from the records of the Harmon Foundation, a New York organization founded in 1922 that promoted African American artists through exhibitions and awards, and its catalog notes list the work as part of the foundation's holdings. Silkscreen was a fairly new medium for fine art then, and the flat, bold color typical of the process suits a subject built on rhythm and movement. The record gives no artist name, so the image's maker is best approached through the Harmon files themselves.
