*Shooting the Chutes* advertised a water ride in which passengers in a boat rode down a steep incline and splashed into a pool at the bottom, a thrill that drew crowds to amusement grounds across the United States in the 1890s. This color poster was printed in Boston by George H. Walker & Co., a lithography firm known for bright, eye-catching commercial work. Posters like this one were meant to be read from a distance, so the bold colors and large lettering were as important as the message. The catalog record is based on an older caption card and has not been independently verified, but the design still shows how entertainment was promoted in the city at the time.
